I’m excited to let you know that my new bag pattern – Sally’s Bag – is now available for download!
Sally’s Bag has a fun and flirty shape with button embellishments on the front and straps that can be adjusted for wearing on the shoulder or for cross-body. The bag is fully lined, has an inside pocket, and is the perfect size to carry your essentials for a day or evening out and about. The finished size is 14″ wide x 9″ high.
The bag was named after Sally Brown (Charlie Brown’s sister) because the style of the bag reminded me of Sally’s hairstyle which flips up at the ends.
As with all my tutorials and patterns, I’ve included lots of step-by-step photos so you can see exactly how things should look and go together at each step. After years of teaching online I’ve found that this is the best way to learn, so even if you’re a beginner you should be able to follow along.
Included in the pdf pattern:
- 30 pages of instructions, photos and full-size pattern pieces
- 66 step-by-step photos plus additional diagrams and illustrations
- BONUS 5-Page printable instruction section without photos for easy printing
Ideas for Changing the Look!
One of my favorite things about making pattern samples is making small changes that have big impact.
The basic pattern includes a flirty and fun style with button embellishment.
For a bold look, add some contrasting piping detail around the edges of the triangles and between the front body sections. The fabric for the flap and contrasting detail on this bag sample was made by printing one of my digital designs onto fabric. This is a terrific way to make unique fabric for bag flaps and other sewing projects. If you’ve never printed on fabric before, you can find all you need to know here.
Turn it into an evening clutch bag by omitting the strap and adding some embellishment. I wrote more about this clutch here.
And to help outline the flap, add some coordinating bias binding around the edge of the flap.
