One of the most fun parts of designing new bag patterns is making the samples, and what I’ve found over the years is that you can easily change the look of a bag to make it look elegant, casual or fun, just by changing the fabric, adding embellishments, and making slight changes to the original design.
In this latest sample for my soon-to-be-released Sally’s Bag Pattern, I made up this sample using one of my hand-dyed fabrics and I left off the bag strap so now it becomes an elegant clutch bag. This was one piece of fabric where I strategically cut the pieces so that the left side was a different shade to the right side, and the flap contained the colors from both sides for a blended look.
I used some plain brass ball buttons, and hand-stitched a few beads and metallic trim around the edge of the flap.
And for the final touch, I gathered a piece of silk organza, twisted it into a flower shape, and added a few beads.
This elegant look is quite different to the previous samples which were more fun and whimsical.
I’m making the final edits to Sally’s Bag Pattern so it should be available very soon!
